Director, Public Relations
 
POSITION SUMMARY:  Plan, direct and coordinate public relations functions by performing the following duties.
  

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB: 
  • Create, recommend and implement PR/media relations campaigns support the creative team in the BMI Nashville office, including events in cities that fall within that office's territory. Events include, but are not limited to: showcases, No. 1 parties, dinners, panels, seminars, workshops, special events.
  • Attend and assist at BMI functions including award events, No. 1 parties, showcases, screenings, workshops as directed. This role supports a diverse slate of work day and evening activities which the PR Director must be available for.
  • Assist in national publicity campaigns for BMI as directed.
  • Work closely with Writer/Publisher Relations Nashville.
  • Develop and write press materials which include, but are not limited to: pitch letters, abstracts for journalists, company news announcements, executive announcements, press releases for Nashville Writer/Publisher events.
  • Plan and direct photo opportunities.
  • Promote Nashville music community trends, songwriters and BMI Nashville developments.
  • Negotiate and budget for services by outside vendors for Nashville events.
  • Work with team members within the department on updating and growing media databases in all genres and regions.
  • Determine best area resources for print and electronic media opportunities. Demonstrate expertise in selecting regional print and electronic media partners in Southern states with a specialization in music and entertainment.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • This job may have some assigned supervisory responsibilities.


POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years experience in the music/entertainment industry within public relations, promotions, and event management; experience within the southeast area preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong writing, proofreading and editing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to sell ideas and gain consensus inside and outside the company
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Experience working with and maintaining database systems and reports, as well as word processing and spreadsheets
  • Able to establish constructive and informative relationships with team members, management and vendors
  • Able to interact professionally with a diverse internal and external population and with all levels of staff and management
  • Able to work independently and with good judgment
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines
  • Attention to detail
